Chapter 1239: The Fool's Daughter (18)

“Big Brother, Sister-in-law, what happened?” Tang Lide asked.

Crying, Liu Chunyue explained the situation. It turned out to be about compensating the owner of the car that had been totaled in the accident. Even after the insurance payout, the traffic police had already determined that Tang Zhiming was at fault, meaning he still had to compensate the other party with five hundred thousand yuan.

Tang Zhiming losing his leg had already been more than Liu Chunyue could bear. Now they had to pay another five hundred thousand. How could she possibly accept that?

Naturally, she was unwilling, so she could only turn to Tang Lide and Song Jinghua for help.

“On the third day after Zhiming's accident, his girlfriend broke up with him,” Liu Chunyue said pitifully. “Now that he's lost his leg, finding someone to marry him will only be harder. We thought about selling his apartment before, but if we do, what will happen to him in the second half of his life?”

“Jinghua, what happened with Xiaoguo before was indeed our fault.” Liu Chunyue sighed. “I was blinded by grief and said things that hurt everyone's feelings.”

“As long as you've come to your senses, that's enough,” Song Jinghua comforted her. “We understand your pain. Let's put the past behind us. So what are you planning to do now?”

“What else can we do? We have to pay. If we don't, they'll sue us and might even forcibly seize our house.” Liu Chunyue wiped her tears. “But we've already emptied our savings, and Zhiming's future treatment will cost a lot more.”

System asked, Host, didn't your parents already give Liu Chunyue a hundred thousand yuan at the hospital for Tang Zhiming's medical expenses?

Tang Guo replied inwardly, “Who would ever think they have too much money? Her son lost his leg. Even though she says it's not my fault, she's already decided in her heart that it is. As for the hundred thousand my parents gave her, she probably thinks they felt guilty and were compensating her son.”

How can people like this even exist?

“Jinghua,” Liu Chunyue pleaded, “can you lend us five hundred thousand? No matter what, we have to settle the debt first.”

Song Jinghua and Tang Lide exchanged glances.

Five hundred thousand yuan was a huge amount.

Though many relatives had borrowed money from them over the years, and though they had managed to save quite a bit, taking out half a million all at once still pained them.

Liu Chunyue sat before them, crying and lamenting her miserable fate, saying her son Tang Zhiming was unlucky. She even cursed Tang Liping for being useless.

“If he had any ability,” she complained, “we could've bought Zhiming a new car long ago. If we'd bought a new car, we wouldn't have bought Xiaoguo's used one. And if we hadn't bought her car, maybe my son's leg wouldn't have been lost.”

“I know it's not Xiaoguo's fault. It was just an accident,” Liu Chunyue said. “My Zhiming simply has a hard fate. He's lost his leg, his engagement is over, and who knows how he'll live for the rest of his life? What girl would be willing to marry into our family now?”

“Sister-in-law, stop crying,” Song Jinghua finally said. “I'll lend it to you, alright?”

She felt a trace of guilt, but more than that, she pitied Tang Zhiming.

Tang Lide remained silent, which clearly meant he agreed to lend them the money.

Having secured the five hundred thousand, Liu Chunyue and Tang Liping left satisfied.

During Tang Zhiming's hospitalization, Tang Lide and Song Jinghua visited him almost every day.

Ever since waking up, Tang Zhiming had been depressed and withdrawn.

Seeing him like that only deepened the couple's sorrow and guilt. Nearly every time they visited, they stuffed money into his hands.

Not only that, Tang Lide even took care of the dirty work himself, emptying bedpans and cleaning up after him.

Tang Guo would occasionally visit as well, and every now and then she would symbolically offer a few words of persuasion.
