Chapter 1233: The Fool's Daughter (12)
Then Yuan Shuo was very likely him.
“Yes.”
Tang Guo admitted it openly. “This guy really gets involved in every industry imaginable. This time, he's selling insurance.”
Host, he's the president of an insurance company. He probably just came out to experience life among ordinary people.
“Judging from that silver tongue of his, plenty of people must have been talked into buying insurance.” Tang Guo's lips curved upward. “Before meeting me, he'd probably already closed several deals.”
Host, you keep saying you'll buy insurance after getting to know him better. Aren't you afraid you'll scare him away?
“If I scare him away, I'll just flirt with him again and coax him back.” Tang Guo smiled brightly. “Then I'll buy a few more insurance policies.”
System: Fine, I surrender.
Ever since selling the car to Tang Zhiming, Tang Guo's life had been fairly peaceful for the past month.
Other than relatives constantly dropping by to take advantage, nothing major had happened.
Tang Lide and Song Jinghua welcomed everyone with open arms. In their minds, family members should always help each other whenever possible.
Today, someone came to borrow money. Tomorrow, another would ask for a loan. One relative needed help with this, another came with some troublesome matter.
Though neither Tang Lide nor Song Jinghua had demanding jobs, all these people had turned them into busy bodies.
Whenever someone came asking for money while Tang Guo was around, she would casually remind them, “Mom, Dad, our family doesn't really have much money left. There are still so many days left this month. Shouldn't we at least keep enough for living expenses?”
Naturally, the two ignored her.
After lending the money and seeing the visitors off, they would turn around and tell her, “They're all family. If we can help, we should. Who doesn't run into difficulties sometimes?”
“Yeah,” Tang Guo replied, “those families seem to encounter difficulties every single month while ours gets to live on bran and wild vegetables.”
Tang Lide shook his head. “You've really become selfish as you've grown older, girl. That's not good.”
“Xiaoguo, they're family. Can you really bear to watch them suffer?”
Tang Guo no longer bothered trying to persuade them. The couple still had some savings and hadn't suffered enough. If not for the endless stream of relatives coming to bleed them dry, things wouldn't have reached this point.
One day they were helping one nephew buy a house, the next they were borrowing money to help another niece get married.
Yet not once had they remembered that their own daughter had supposedly been carrying debt.
They always said that after they died, the house and all their assets would belong to her anyway.
Tang Guo seriously suspected that by the time they left this world, they would have given away every last bit of their family fortune.
“Xiaoguo, have you forgotten?” Song Jinghua said. “Back when you graduated and were running around under the scorching sun looking for work, wasn't it your cousin who drove you around? That's what relatives are for. Would a stranger do that for you?”
Tang Guo inwardly scoffed.
That cousin had indeed agreed to drive her to her interview. But halfway there, he'd said he had something urgent to do and needed to pick someone up. He claimed it wasn't far and promised to drop her off afterward.
Yet that “not far” turned into a thirty-minute detour.
And the person he picked up was merely some girl he'd met at a gathering, along with the girl's friend.
Eventually, he did bring her to the company where she'd interviewed—the same company she still worked for.
After the interview, wanting to express her gratitude, she offered to treat him to a meal.
And what did that cousin do?
He brought the girl and her friend along.
The three of them ordered dish after dish.
The three of them ate the most.
She ate the least.
And the one who paid the bill—
Was her.
Fresh out of university, she'd spent two thousand yuan on a single meal.
Heh.
