Chapter 1206: The Princess Consort Whose Memories Were Altered (81)
"Yes, Your Majesty."
Alive
all the way back to Southern Shu—that simply meant leaving him with his life
intact.
That
bastard actually dared covet their Empress? Did he really think they would
agree?
Their
Emperor had finally managed to get himself an Empress, and now someone dared
come and steal her away? They'd teach him a proper lesson.
By
the time Shangguan Jing was escorted out of the city, he had been pelted with
rotten eggs and vegetable leaves, and people had even spat on him.
One
of the men escorting him kindly advised, "Don't hate these common folk.
You brought this on yourself. Of all people to try and steal, you had to set
your sights on our Empress."
In
Northern Yan, the Empress was practically a national treasure.
Ever
since she had arrived ten years ago, nearly every household had meat on the
table every day. No one went hungry anymore.
No
matter what seeds were brought in from other countries, Her Majesty always
found a way to overcome differences in climate and soil, successfully
cultivating them with abundant yields.
Wasn't
such an Empress a treasure?
And
with her shops spread across many countries, weren't the talented people she
employed chosen from among ordinary citizens like them?
Thus,
all along the way, Shangguan Jing was "warmly seen off" by the
people. It took him a full month to finally return to Southern Shu.
Shangguan
Yi was astonished when he learned that Shangguan Jing had been expelled by the
people of Northern Yan.
He
had intended to reprimand him, but seeing Shangguan Jing's battered body,
yellow complexion, and emaciated appearance, it was clear that he had suffered
greatly along the journey.
He
had even fainted immediately after being sent back.
Only
after Shangguan Jing regained consciousness did Shangguan Yi ask, "Prince
Jing, what exactly did you do in Northern Yan to be expelled like this?"
He
didn't believe Shangguan Jing was the type to overstep his bounds.
Shangguan
Jing's eyes clouded over for a brief moment. When he recognized Shangguan Yi's
face, he finally came back to himself.
Originally,
he hadn't wanted to tell Shangguan Yi where Tang Guo was.
But
as a prince of Southern Shu, reclaiming the Empress of Northern Yan was no easy
task.
Thus,
the only option was to join forces with Shangguan Yi and bring her back first.
"Imperial
Brother… I saw her."
"Her?"
Shangguan Yi frowned. "Who?"
Thinking
of the woman he had seen, Shangguan Jing suddenly found the emotions he had
buried deep within his heart impossible to suppress any longer.
They
erupted all at once.
Only
now did he realize that, without him noticing, she had come to occupy such an
important place in his heart.
"My
Princess Consort," Shangguan Jing said. "I saw her, Imperial
Brother." His voice trembled with excitement. "It's really her. She
didn't die. She's alive."
Then,
remembering her current status, his eyes dimmed.
"But
I have no way of bringing her back."
Shangguan
Yi finally understood. Grabbing Shangguan Jing by the collar and paying no
attention to his injuries, he asked anxiously, "What did you say?"
"Imperial
Brother, it's truly her. She's now the Empress of Northern Yan. For some
reason, she no longer remembers the past and refuses to come with me. Imperial
Brother, let's join forces. We must bring her back."
"She
is my Princess Consort. How can she possibly become the Empress of Northern
Yan?"
Shangguan
Yi questioned him again and again, repeatedly confirming every detail before
finally believing that Tang Guo was indeed alive.
The
only problem was that she was now the Empress of Northern Yan.
After
listening to Shangguan Jing's account, Shangguan Yi nodded.
"Very
well. We'll work together. She was once my Noble Consort, and she should return
to Southern Shu. Once she's back, I will definitely treat her well."
Both
men were overjoyed, immersed in their own happiness.
Neither
of them paid any attention to the other.
