Chapter 1197: The Princess Consort Whose Memories Were Altered (72)
In the past, Tang Jiao would have simply pushed the door open and entered. What would greet her then was Shangguan Jing's cold reprimand.
"Why did you come in?"
Seeing the subtle changes in Shangguan Jing's temperament, Tang Jiao put on a wronged expression and walked over, tugging lightly on his sleeve.
"Your Highness, didn't you say you'd take me to Jiangnan?"
"She's already dead, and you're still thinking about going to Jiangnan?"
Shangguan Jing's eyes were bloodshot, his voice nearly hoarse.
It would have been one thing if Tang Jiao hadn't known before, but now that she knew her sister had met with disaster, why was she still so indifferent?
Shouldn't she be grieving for her own sister? Why was she still thinking about traveling?
Tang Jiao pursed her lips.
"Your Highness, I am saddened by my younger sister's accident too. I only thought that, seeing Your Highness so distressed, perhaps going to Jiangnan would help you relax."
"Your Highness," she continued softly, "I feel you're acting strangely. Even though Noble Consort Jiao was my younger sister, you shouldn't be reacting like this. The way you're acting… it's as though she was the person you truly held in your heart."
At that moment, Tang Jiao finally "noticed" the spirit tablet that Shangguan Jing hadn't managed to conceal.
The words Princess Consort Jing engraved upon it startled her so much that she staggered backward.
"Your Highness, can you tell me what's going on?" Her face turned deathly pale. "Why is this the spirit tablet of Princess Consort Jing? So the person in your heart has always been my younger sister, not me, hasn't it?"
Before Shangguan Jing could react, she burst through the door and ran out.
"So you never loved me at all! The kindness you've shown me all this time was only because of my sister! Then why should I remain in Prince Jing's Manor?"
As she ran, she quietly communicated with System 222.
Triple Two, is Shangguan Yi really at the restaurant?
He is. He found out that one of the chefs there had once been instructed by Tang Guo, so he came specially to eat, hoping to relive those familiar flavors.
Tang Jiao quickly messed up her appearance a little and ran toward Shangguan Yi's location.
Sure enough, before long, Shangguan Yi saw her disheveled figure from upstairs and personally came down to meet her.
Upon hearing that Shangguan Jing had mistreated her, he didn't hesitate for a second and brought her back to the palace.
While in the palace, Tang Jiao occasionally mentioned that certain places seemed strangely familiar to her.
Those words soothed Shangguan Yi's wounded heart.
He believed Tang Jiao had appeared to heal him, and he became convinced that one day she would remember everything.
Deliberately suppressing memories of another person, he did not place Tang Jiao in the sealed Noble Consort Tower. Instead, he arranged another palace for her.
Soon, Shangguan Jing came looking for Tang Jiao.
Because of her, the two brothers constantly quarreled.
Whenever things escalated, they even fought each other.
Standing to one side, Tang Jiao would clutch her handkerchief and tearfully try to stop them.
In reality, she was adding fuel to the fire, causing them to fight even more fiercely.
After both men were seriously injured and filled with regret, she would stay by their sides, crying pitifully with tears streaming down her cheeks, repeatedly saying that everything was her fault.
System 222 was amazed by Tang Jiao's performance.
It had never expected its new host to grow to such an extent.
During the day, Tang Jiao kept the two brothers busy, leaving them no time to think about Tang Guo.
But once the night grew silent…
Tang Guo was all that remained in their minds.
Late at night, Shangguan Yi would sit alone inside Noble Consort Tower and murmur to himself,
"Tang Jiao is lively and mischievous. She acts like a child and often makes people angry. She can't compare to your gentle virtue."
"If only you were still here…"
"She's your younger sister. I will take good care of her. I won't let Prince Jing bully her."
