Chapter 1061: The Flash Marriage Heiress (45)
“Gu Ye?” The name sounded vaguely familiar to Luo Yicheng. He felt as though he had heard it somewhere before, but he couldn't quite place it.
“It seems President Luo doesn't really keep up with these circles. That Gu Ye is probably trying to sell his products to Miss Tang.” The other executive immediately launched into a lengthy explanation, rattling on and on.
Only then did Luo Yicheng remember. Wasn't this the infamous Gu Ye, the man with a terrible reputation, yet so sought after that anyone wanting his help had to make an appointment far in advance?
“Judging by how regretfully he left, your wife must have turned him down.”
Luo Yicheng couldn't help smiling. “Xiaoguo is intelligent and rational. She won't be fooled.”
“Of course, of course.”
Luo Yicheng knew of Gu Ye, though they had never met.
Once he heard who it was, he stopped worrying. There was no way Xiaoguo would be interested in a man like that—stingy, lacking in character, and obsessed with money. He continued chatting and laughing with the people around him.
Then, out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of a familiar figure.
Who else could it be but Qian Beibei?
Seeing her thin, haggard face, his heart inexplicably ached. He wanted to walk over, but remembering his identity and the many eyes around him, he restrained himself. Instead, he casually drifted in another direction, inching closer without drawing attention.
He could tell at once that something wasn't right. More importantly, her mother, Niu Jinlan, was there too, and standing in front of the mother and daughter was a balding man in his thirties.
“Beibei, this is President Lin.”
Qian Beibei bit her lip before forcing out, “Hello, President Lin.”
“Hello, Miss Qian.”
President Lin's eyes lit up the moment he saw her. She was exactly his type.
Qian Beibei said nothing more. With her head slightly lowered, she swept her gaze around the room, but she couldn't find Luo Yicheng anywhere. Disappointment welled up inside her.
She had seen him enter the banquet earlier. She just hadn't found an opportunity to approach him.
“Miss Qian, I like you very much. After the banquet, perhaps we could have a proper chat. Of course, if tonight isn't convenient, we can arrange something tomorrow during the day.”
Qian Beibei had never come here to meet any President Lin. She declined politely.
“I'm sorry, President Lin. I don't think it's very convenient for me.”
“Oh, I see.”
President Lin's smile faded. Since she was the aloof type, he had no interest in wasting his patience.
He had only come because she was attractive and someone had arranged the introduction. But the result was obvious—she had been distracted the entire time and showed no interest in him whatsoever.
Especially that fleeting trace of disgust in her eyes earlier.
He sneered inwardly and turned away.
Watching President Lin leave, Niu Jinlan angrily pinched Qian Beibei. “That was President Lin! Your aunt went through so much trouble to bring us here so you could meet more people. There are so many eligible men here. Beibei, what more do you want?”
“Mom, I only came to this banquet because you're my mother. I didn't want you to lose face in front of Auntie.”
Qian Beibei shook off her hand.
“Mom, don't you think the way you're acting—and what just happened—looks a lot like selling meat? You're the one selling it, President Lin is the buyer, and I'm the piece of meat being sold.”
Niu Jinlan was so furious she nearly fainted. Before she could say anything, Qian Beibei shoved her aside and ran toward the restroom with reddened eyes.
Niu Jinlan hurried after her, grabbing hold of her and saying, “Do you really think you can still be with Luo Yicheng?”
